AUDIOMOTION AND VICON GO LARGER THAN LIFE FOR GULLIVER’S TRAVELS AND NARNIA
Vicon, developer of motion capture products for the entertainment, life science and engineering industries, today announced that two recent blockbusters – The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Gulliver’s Travels – were created using its motion capture technology.
20th Century Fox’s highly anticipated remake, Gulliver’s Travels, features a larger than life cast headed by Jack Black as the renowned giant. Audiomotion, the studio behind the motion capture, was tasked with capturing up to 10 Lilliputians at a time for the crowd scenes. It took its Vicon MX40 motion capture system on location to the famous Pinewood Studios, installing the cameras in a huge 20 x 20 meter volume.
Audiomotion has been a Vicon customer since 1997. Its 6,000 sq. ft. facility houses a massive 130 Vicon cameras, and is the largest full performance capture stage in Europe.
Mick Morris, Managing Director at Audiomotion said, “Filming on location for Gulliver’s Travels was great fun. The Vicon system handled the multiple person capture brilliantly and the data was really accurate, which makes our jobs so much easier!”
Audiomotion was also hired to tackle the 3rd installment of The Chronicles of Narnia. MPC, the VXF studio behind The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, called on Audiomotion to create hundreds of digital double animations for the Walt Disney Pictures hit movie sequences, after its successful creature work on Prince Caspian.
Working with the award winning VFX team at MPC and a talented cast of actors & stuntmen, Audiomotion skillfully brought the characters back to life for the third instalment, which was released last month.
Lindsay McFarlane, Visual Effects Producer for the production said, “Audiomotion took the brief and completely looked after all of the mocap for the movie incredibly professionally and efficiently. This resulted in very high quality motion capture animation being delivered in double quick time. If only all aspects of film making were this painless!”
