VICON FILM FESTIVAL 14 DAY COUNTDOWN

Two weeks left to submit Film Festival entries and a chance to win an iPod

17 January 2008 – Oxford, UK: Vicon, developer of Academy Award-winning motion capture systems and part of the Oxford Metrics Group plc, today announced there are now only 14 days to go for animators to get their entries submitted for the $10,000 Film Festival cash prize. All films must be uploaded through the Film Festival site here by 31 January 2008.

The Film Festival organisers will also be conducting a daily prize draw. For each of the 14 days leading up to the deadline Vicon will randomly pick one of the entries - submitted on that day - out of a hat to win an iPod Shuffle.

The judging will then be done in three stages. The long list of films will be selected by the Film Festival organisers. Then the chosen films will be uploaded onto the Film Festival Gallery and YouTube in March 2008 for the public to cast their verdict.

Finally the 10 films that have received the most public votes will be assessed by the Film Festival judging panel, which is made up of experts from movies, motion capture and animation including: Mike Sanders (Industrial Light & Magic), Eric Furie (USC School of Cinematic Arts), Takashi Fukamoto (Links Digiworks), Gary Roberts (House of Moves), Chris Mais (writer and director of the award-winning Smile), Mick Morris (Audiomotion) and Darren Waters (BBC Interactive). The winner will be announced in June 2008. Media sponsors for the competition include VFXWorld.com, Computer Graphics World and Digital Arts Magazine (UK).

Nick Bolton, Chief Executive at Vicon said: “We’re really excited to see some of the entries start coming in. Our aim has always been to try and help young animators realise their potential. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll hopefully really start to see this talent coming through.”
