27 January 2009, Oxford, UK: Vicon, developer of Academy Award®-winning motion capture systems today announced the opening of Somotion, the first motion capture studio in Eastern Europe to be equipped with T-Series cameras.
Sodigital, the parent company of Somotion is capable of delivering end-to-end animation pipelines starting from conceptual work and animatics, all the way up to production quality animation. The studio boasts 20 Vicon T40 cameras with a capture area of over 100 square meters. Sodigital engineers can capture full-body and face detail depending on customer requirements.
Sodigital is primarily working with game development studios, motion picture productions, and advertising agencies in Central and Eastern Europe. “We are fully aware that the motion capture market extends beyond the visual effects necessary for Hollywood productions. Motion capture is used in many day-to-day applications. We chose Vicon T40 cameras and Blade for crystal clear accuracy and a well developed pipeline. The Vicon system will allow us to meet otherwise impossible deadlines.” says Jerry Filipiak, VP Development, sodigital.
The location of Somotion in Krakow is easily accessible, bringing world-class technology to all producers in Central and Eastern Europe.
Sodigital has already published top-quality interactive multimedia products such as the flash based Gilfor’s Tales game. “Our future products will benefit from Vicon motion capture technology delivering a more realistic experience to the users. We are planning to utilize mocap in most of our future projects such as the up-and-coming entertainment platform Sparx3D”.
Sodigital plans to develop Somotion to be a multi-faceted visual effects studio. “Launching a motion capture studio in Krakow and tying it with Sodigital’s existing experience with 2D and 3D graphics makes their goal that much more realistic. We wish Sodigital and Somotion all the best and look forward to working with them in the future. Said Doug Reinke, CEO and President, Vicon.
