Validating its position as the predominant provider of in-house motion capture systems and outside motion capture services for game development, VICON customers made up over half of Game Developer Magazine’s list of top 20 game publishers in 2006 . VICON motion capture systems have been installed recently at the industry’s leading facilities, including Activision and Ubisoft, expanding a prestigious roster of VICON games clients worldwide that already includes Electronic Arts, Microsoft Games, Midway Games, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Capcom, Konami, NAMCO, Nintendo, Sega and many others. VICON’s latest system offerings to the game development community will be on display at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, Calif. March 7th-9th at the Moscone Convention Center from stand #354, West Hall. Representatives from VICON House of Moves will also be on hand to discuss motion capture services tailored to game development clients. VICON MX+ systems provide unprecedented accuracy, scalability, performance and ease of operation for capturing and directing simultaneous facial, hand and full-body performances of actors, athletes, stunt people, dancers, musicians and props in real time. These systems, along with VICON iQ software, are allowing games studios of all sizes and scopes to meet the needs for a new level of realism in game cinematics and gameplay. “This has been a huge year for VICON in games,” says Robin Pengelly, Business Development Manager, VICON Entertainment. “Whether building their own motion capture volumes, or tapping into the motion capture services at VICON House of Moves, games customers are migrating toward the quality, ease of use and reliability that VICON systems represent. And, with the MX40+ offering twice the resolution of other competitively priced cameras, VICON motion capture is able to dramatically accelerate production cycles.” In addition to strong system sales, VICON saw the motion capture service business also booming this year in games, with House of Moves working with numerous clients to deliver custom specifications for motion capture recording and data delivery. Titles created with motion capture produced at House of Moves include the top-selling Guitar Hero II for Harmonix Music Systems/Red Octane, and other triple-A titles for developers including Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Realtime Worlds, Ubisoft, and others. VICON has provided dedicated capture systems and support for games production for over a decade. In that time, the technology has gone from allowing single-person offline capture of 50 or so moves using a small number of cameras to enabling multiple-person “total performance” capture for thousands of moves with hundreds of cameras in real time. As new console development and the demands for ultra-real motion increase, VICON continues to be dedicated to providing the most market-leading full performance capture tools.
