VICON RELEASES VICON iQ 2.0, THE ULTIMATE IN MOTION CAPTURE SOFTWARE

Exclusive New Processing Algorithms and Real-Time Capture and Grayscale Processing for VICON MX Systems Deliver Unprecedented Accuracy and Automated Efficiency

Oxford, UK (June 28, 2005) – VICON, developer of Academy Award®-winning motion capture technology, today released VICON iQ 2.0, the newest version of its motion capture pipeline software. VICON iQ provides an intuitive interface with all of the tools needed to manage, automate, capture and process an entire production. With Version 2.0, VICON iQ offers a complete real-time environment for setup, X Systems Deliver Unprecedented Accuracy and Automated Efficiency calibration and capture with VICON’s ultra high-resolution VICON MX systems. VICON iQ 2.0 also takes full advantage of the unique grayscale power of VICON MX cameras, with all-new processing algorithms to deliver the best accuracy, quality and processing times.

VICON iQ 2.0 dramatically streamlines motion capture workflow, offering unprecedented precision when tracking complex interaction between multiple actors and significantly reducing the efforts previously required in editing the captured information with other systems and solutions. It will automatically process the most difficult multiple-character capture scenarios with rapidity and ease. Using all-new algorithms and a calibrated biomechanical and kinematic model of the actors and props being captured, VICON iQ solves most of the ambiguities that typically exist with optical motion. At every step, VICON iQ 2.0 provides the user with industry-leading quality assurance tools to ensure an intuitive and efficient workflow.

Key VICON iQ 2.0 features include:
• Support for real-time capture with VICON MX systems, including VICON MX3, VICON MX13 and the world-leading VICON MX40 cameras
• Real-time set-up tools, camera optimization, calibration and diagnostics
• Support for unlimited camera counts to meet production demands with simultaneous full-body, facial and hand capture for multiple-actor capture
• Support for Timecode, Genlock and full synchronization for studio integration
• Support for 10-bit grayscale for the most accurate marker identification
• Ground-breaking calibration, 3D reconstruction, kinematic labeling and processing algorithms
• Network licensing and automated batch processing.

“With our clients continuing to astound us with their production feats, we are driven to push VICON technologies farther than ever before,” commented Gary Roberts, Vice President, VICON Feature Unit. “Unique grayscale processing algorithms onboard VICON MX cameras and within VICON iQ 2.0 delivers, for the first time, the ability for true performance capture -- the ability to efficiently capture and process hundreds of markers on the face and body simultaneously across multiple actors. Further speeding and easing the workflow, VICON iQ 2.0 also provides real-time visualisation of captured and processed data at all times alongside all new algorithms which are already tripling throughput when compared to other systems. The combination of VICON iQ 2.0 and VICON MX systems really has to be seen to be believed.”

Motion capture solutions from VICON include high-resolution, high-frame-rate cameras built by VICON specifically for motion tracking. VICON’s next-generation VICON MX real-time optical motion capture systems usher in ultra-high-resolution, true gray scale processing, virtually artifact-free capture with VICON MX40, the world’s first four-million-pixel gray scale motion capture camera. VICON MX revolutionizes the quality, flexibility and ease with which motion capture data can be applied to real-time and off-line applications in film, television, video games, virtual prototyping, biomechanical analysis and more.
