Vicon Motus Modules

A number of powerful modules are available for Vicon Motus, offering the user a broad range of additional functionality.

Analog Acquisition Module

The Vicon Motus Analog Acquisition Module is a powerful tool to collect and precisely synchronize analog device data with kinematic motion data. The module quantifies output from sensors or transducers that convert force, pressure, temperature, etc. into voltages. For example, analog data from force platforms can be combined with kinematic information obtained with Vicon Motus software to produce parameters such as joint forces and moments.

Data collected from an analog output device provides important information by itself, as well as when combined with kinematic data. The force and moment data collected from force platforms can indicate injury potential and movement economy. Muscular contractions measured by electromyography (EMG) provide a picture of muscle activation patters that can be used to assess proper muscular control. Force, EMG, and other analog measurements become even more powerful analysis tools when interpreted with motion data.

Automatic Acquisition Module

Vicon Motus offers two modules to measure movement from video:  the Vicon Motus Manual Acquisition Module and the Vicon Motus Automatic Acquisition module. These options allow the user to manually select the points of interest, such as joint centers, or to switch to automatic mode and permit the system to automatically track reflective markers.

First, video is captured and stored on the computer’s hard drive. Coordinate data is then manually or automatically acquired picture by picture throughout the sequence. Vicon Motus Manual module overlays a cursor on the predicted position and the user either confirms with a mouse click or makes the necessary adjustment. The Vicon Motus Automatic module significantly speeds up the point identification process by locating the positions of contrasting markers attached to the subject. Minimal or no user intervention is  necessary when using the Vicon Motus Automatic Acquisition module.

Manual tracking is ideal for use outdoors, underwater and in microscopic environments. It is also ideal for studies where markers are impractical, e.g., infants, animals or athletes in competition.

Whether you want to track one or one hundred points the Vicon Motus video acquisition modules can accommodate your requirements.

Kinecalc

Advanced research requires cutting edge computational power. The Vicon Motus Kinecalc module gives you the flexibility to perform complex calculations using your own algorithms. Since a procedural standard for many kinematic analyses has not been established, many studies need specialized data processing. Kinecalc virtually eliminates the requirement to transfer data into third-party applications.

Kinecalc is a user-friendly point and click interface for entering mathematical formulas. Thee formulas can be as simple as adding two values together or as complex as vector algebra equations. Any data generated within Kinecalc can also be presented graphically in the Vicon Motus reports component.
