Custom built for motion capture – welcome to the Vicon Avalon and Vicon Vegas-S sensors

We knew the high performance of the Vicon T-Series cameras would not have been possible with off-the-shelf sensors – so we built our own. The Vicon Avalon and our latest innovation, the Vicon Vegas-S, offer high speed and high resolution at 1, 2, 4 and 16 megapixels. Coupled with Vicon's grayscale centroid fitting, Vicon sensors deliver astonishing results within large volumes even with tiny unobtrusive markers.

HIGH SPEED. HIGH RESOLUTION.
Motion capture needs both high speed and high resolution. Regular sensors can only offer one or the other but not both. The Vicon Vegas-S sensor enables data to be captured at higher speeds than ever before with full frame speeds of 1000fps and up to 4 megapixels resolution.

Vicon Avalon, the world's only 16 megapixel motion capture sensor, has full frame speeds of 120 fps. Need to capture data faster? Avalon can run at twice this speed at 8 megapixels per frame and an aspect ratio that is suitable for many applications in large volumes.

ELECTRONIC FREEZE FRAME SHUTTER
To ensure you get great data, the Vicon Vegas-S and Avalon sensors have a global shutter, making them much more tolerant of on-set or laboratory ambient light. Rolling shutters routinely found on regular CMOS sensors are not ideal for motion capture as they can cause errors in marker location due to motion blur. Vicon sensors are not equipped with just any shutter; they offer a true electronic freeze frame shutter that records the entire sensor image at an exact point in time, eliminating these errors.
