Oxford,UK – 11 May 2016 - Vicon, the motion capture technology specialist for the entertainment, life science and engineering industries, today announced that its flagship Vicon Vantage camera has won a StudioDaily Prime Award in the category for best production technology tools at the 2016 NAB Show. The award, given to the most outstanding products in the category, were based on an evaluation by a panel of judges who described Vicon Vantage as "a significant redesign and an impressive step forward in every way.”
The StudioDaily Prime Awards celebrate the best of new technology, creative thinking, and high-end craftsmanship in the media and entertainment industry.
Drawing on over 30 years’ of motion capture experience, Vicon Vantage has been intelligently designed to work cohesively with each of its components to provide up-to-the-minute information to the system operator. It continuously monitors its performance with a host of sensors, giving the user visual feedback through the on-board camera display, as well as on Vicon’s tablet application, Control. This level of insight gives users the opportunity to make adjustments on the fly, ensuring a ‘right first time’ approach.
The powerful processing algorithms capture a much higher quality of data, providing key benefits to the entertainment industry. From studios creating realistic visual effects for film and television, to broadcasters creating virtual studios,Vantage turns what was traditionally a multiple crew setup into a one person job. Vantage opens up motion capture to a much broader audience and since its launch Vicon have supplied many systems worldwide to entertainment customers. Currently students at Drexel University in Philadelphia are using the technology for game development and animation, where they’ve seen dramatic improvements in detail, accuracy and speed.
“For a technology that is paving the way for the future of motion capture, it’s great to see Vantage recognised as the leading technology in its field,” said Imogen Moorhouse, CEO at Vicon. “The combination of the camera’s industry-leading 16 megapixel resolution, intuitive processing algorithms and tracking capabilities allows users to fully harness the power of the camera alongside the best software in the business.”
