DJI invests in T40S outdoor motion capture system for the ultimate in speed and precision
Vicon, the motion capture technology specialists for the engineering, entertainment and life sciences industries, announced today it has secured a contract with DJI Innovations, the global leader in developing and manufacturing high performance, reliable, easy-to-use, small, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for commercial and recreational use.
The company of over 2000 employees, among the largest in the UAS market, is dedicated to making aerial photography and videography accessible to professional photographers, cinematographers and hobbyists.
Known as a 'flying camera', the Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter has a stabilised video camera and is controlled by the user on the ground via remote control. It is capable of capturing approximately 25 minutes of footage per flight and flying up to 700 meters in the air. The BBC recently reported one of their camera crew was using DJI's S800 Hexcopter to capture world events from a completely different perspective.
DJI sought a motion capture system to help with their engine design, prototyping and flight systems research and development. DJI chose Vicon's T40S system over other systems on the market as it can capture high-speed movement of the UAS outdoors and deliver data with sub-millimetre precision.
