GAIT ANALYSIS, NEUROSCIENCE AND MOTOR CONTROL
Designed with clinical applications in mind
Optical mocap solutions from Vicon are used in clinical gait analysis, amputee rehabilitation, lower limb movement studies, cerebral palsy research, motor control, and neuroscience. Whether you’re a doctor, a surgeon, in the defence medical arm, or a physiotherapist, clinical scientist, biomechanist, teacher or student – from post-grad research to under-grad teaching – Vicon has the tools to aid your clinical diagnosis and research.
Vicon is the only mocap company with a dedicated software platform, developed specifically for the life sciences community – so all the most relevant features are right in front of you.
Plug-in-Gait (PiG) is an out-of-the-box solution to capture validated data on day one of system setup, and the Conventional Gait Model (CGM) comes standard with Nexus and is the most flexible and repeatable model available.
CGM is used by the majority of the world’s gait labs, with over 9,000 research articles (*9,290, Feb ‘19) and over 40,000 citations in research papers, more than four times any other manufacturer (*Google Scholar, Feb ‘19).
Did you know we are part of the team driving the research and development forwards for CGM2?
Vicon offers a highly advanced inertial capture sensors and app solution for capture in the field – that can also ultimately be integrated into your optical motion capture lab*. (*Nexus 2.10, Autumn 2019)
Within Nexus 2.10 and via our new inertial sensor, Blue Trident, Vicon will offer quaternions – global angles that calculate orientation and rotation of a joint in three dimensions – allowing biomechanics researchers to add inertial data on joint impacts and limb movement to further develop the scope of their research.
We are constantly working on new functionality following feedback from customers and incorporating new features into point updates. Over 90% of our life sciences software enhancements come from customer feedback*. (*Nexus 2.9, June ‘19)
We’ve also included the calculations for step width and limp index into Nexus, based on feedback from customers.
Did you know we also provide support for the life of your system?
With Nexus, customers can easily integrate third party biomechanical devices into your analogue or digital lab – everything from force plates, to EMG sensors, inertial sensors and more. Precisely synchronize the data from these devices with your Vicon optical data in Nexus.
We offer the most flexible range of modelling languages. Our system integrates with all the most common software – MATLAB, Python, Visual3d, LabView, and more, or use ProCalc, our own free built-in software.
We run on an open source policy – we can provide SDKs, APIs and open access for third parties to create plugins for our software. All Vicon model details are available for anyone wanting to adapt them.
We understand your time is important – you don’t want to spend time processing data. That’s why we fully automate the entire processing pipeline: from labelling, to event detection, biomechanical modelling, data export, and post-capture analysis.
To go one step further, most common processing options are available at the touch of a button: automatic marker labelling; identifying events for time normalization; automatic gap filling and more. Customers can take advantage of the ability to create their own tailored workflow templates, covering processes as simple or as detailed as required.
If you customize Nexus to process your unique project automatically, you can massively reduce time from recording data to calculated results. For a research programme collecting data from 30 subjects, with 20 trials from each, we can help users cut processing time down from five minutes to 10 seconds per trial, using Nexus’ automatic processing. This saves almost 10 hours of work.
Vicon is proud to be working in partnership with Motek Medical as an integral part of its high-end CAREN (Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment) system.
This immersive multi-sensory system for clinical and research applications uses Vicon Vantage cameras, along with virtual reality, interactive inputs (including an instrumented dual-belt treadmill, a 6 degrees-of-freedom moveable motion base, 360-degree projection, and surround sound), so patients can go beyond traditional rehabilitation.
READ MORENexus is our platform designed specifically for the needs of the life sciences community, at every level. Not only do we offer native CGM2 integration, but allow clinicians and surgeons to run the pipeline alongside other biomechanical models, to assess the variations and make a clinical decision on the appropriate model for each specific research project. As one of the key partners in driving forward the development of CGM2, Vicon systems are the most clinically validated available.
In Nexus 2.11, with hard sync, you can access the full sensor capability for highly accurate synchronization of inertial data with the precise tracking data from Vicon’s optical cameras.
