Firmware 707 (via Reprogramming Tool)

Abstract

File Name: ViconFirmwareUpdateUtility_707.zip

The firmware update utility provides a robust guided workflow that allows you to update your camera firmware.

Version 1.2.1 of the tool has now been updated to incorporate the latest FW package(707).

Whilst this package contains changes only for Vantage cameras, it will be beneficial to install this package on all hardware to ensure compatibility and ease of upgrade with future releases.

When the utility is installed and started, unblock it from the Windows firewall in order for it to communicate with the cameras and reprogram them.

Note: Starting other Vicon software during the operation of the reprogramming tool may interrupt the updating process.

Issues Addressed:

  • Mixed system stability has been improved at specific rates (150Hz)
  • General camera stability above 200Hz has been improved
  • Cameras temperature readings from the onboard sensors are more reliable
  • Low jitter mode in supported versions of Vicon Tracker is now enabled on camera startup
  • Corrected an issue with data deliver when marker passes in or out of the top edge of the camera image
  • Cameras stability has been improved for Vantage V5 when running at less common freq (540Hz)
  • System sync is more robust at 200Hz when using multiple network switches
  • Shifting from 100fps to 250fps no longer causes the cameras to flicker grey
  • Vantage V8 are more stable after framerate changes to 500Hz
  • Cameras now more reliably release sync mastership when a Lock+ re-joins the system after a reboot

Requirements

Vantage, Vero or Vue camera based systems

Firmware_725

To download, use the Firmware Update Utility

Firmware 725 is a general release available for all users, which upgrades all Vantage cameras to Vantage+ by enabling Vicon’s new high speed camera mode. The new high speed camera mode gives Vicon Vantage users access to higher camera capture rates. The cameras can still be used in their traditional windowing mode, or, via a camera dropdown menu in the software, run in the new high speed mode.

Supporting software updates for all of Vicon’s major software applications (Nexus, Tracker and Shōgun) are required to access the new high speed mode. These software updates will be made available at the time of, or shortly after, the release of Firmware 725 (Vantage+).

Other addressed issues:

  • Booting of cameras within large systems has been made more reliable, preventing an infrequent issue that could cause camera images to appear noisy and required a reboot to fix.
  • Addressed an issue whereby GPOs may not respond to a manual Capture Stop or Capture Cancel if there is a Stop after Duration loaded in Software.
  • Corrected an issue that could fail to start GPOs when the command was sent from Vicon Evoke or Vicon Shōgun.
  • GPO will be placed in a resting state before a start event even if the pulse width is over 65.5 ms.
  • Repeating GPO programs now correctly return to a rest output state at the end of the program.

Firmware_722

Download via Firmware Update Utility

Please note that firmware version 722 is not radio-compatible with firmware version 715, so all radio devices (Beacon and Pulsar) should be updated to firmware version 722 at the same time. Any Pulsars that remain on firmware version 715 require a Beacon on firmware version 715 to operate correctly.

Beacon and Pulsar

  • New radio sync mechanism.
  • Improved radio connection reliability.
  • Increased connection timeout to 30 seconds.
  • Pulsars are no longer disconnected from the Beacon during a system frame rate change.
  • Command to enable IR LEDs while Pulsars are charging.
  • Fixed Beacon having higher master priority than an MX Giganet – they now have the same priority, and the first device to connect will be nominated the master device. The ‘Preferred Master’ functionality in software can be used to guarantee a specific device is chosen as master.

Vantage

  • Fixed very occasional issue in 717 where the data stream didn’t commence after boot.

Lock

  • Fixed monitor-based GPO resetting duration-based GPO when used at the same time
  • Fixed cyclic GPOs not stopping at end of capture

Firmware 704 fixes several issues with Vero & Vue cameras as well as deploying previous fixes for Vantage cameras:

  • Changing from 120Hz 2:1 to 1:1 causes corrupt images in Vue
  • Vue video shutter period is not aligned with main system when running subsampled
  • Vue stops sending data when calibration mode deactivated when subsampling at 3:1
  • OLED display goes blank
  • The camera noise floor becomes visible when the threshold on a Vantage camera is set to around 0.1
  • Display freezes in pie chart during calibration
  • Torn image on display when bumped
  • 2000Hz not possible
  • Unable to run over 1935Hz in Tracker
  • OLED goes blank after camera sits for a while after being bumped
  • Nexus 2.5 sensor “block” on T-series cameras
  • Changing from 120Hz 2:1 to 1:1 causes corrupt images in Vue
  • Vue video shutter period is not aligned with main system when running subsampled
  • Vue stops sending data when calibration mode deactivated when subsampling at 3:1

Requirements

Firmware_702

Firmware 702 (via Reprogramming Tool)

Abstract

File Name: CameraReprogrammingTool 1.1.0.94951h__r702.zip

The new firmware reprogramming tool provides a more robust guided workflow that allows users to update their firmware more reliably. This was deemed to be important due to the fact that the firmware 702 update contained many changes to camera infrastructure including filesystem changes. Going forwards, Vicon will update this tool for major changes in firmware in order to deploy new versions of firmware alongside the existing in-application firmware reprogramming functionality. This tool will provide a more convenient method for firmware updates and has the additional benefit of allowing firmware releases to be made more proactively.

Bug fixes:

  • Reboot Failure: Camera appears grey in system tree and responds to soft reboot
  • Shifting from 30Hz to 120Hz leaves system in unstable situation
  • Cameras not booting up on software launch reliably
  • Enabling genlock in Blade causes Vantage to crash
  • Framerate change causes cameras to stop sending data.
  • Vue not delivering data when Bonita 720C joins the system
  • Vero13 and Vue unreliable boot when system is at 50Hz and Nexus is started
  • Vue video calibration overlay incorrect
  • Stability issues at 250Hz
  • Strobe type is incorrectly reported for Vero cameras running firmware 700\701
  • Bonita Video one frame ahead of optical following restart
  • Vue colour balance improvement
  • Vue camera in 720p mode report incorrect image offset

Upgrading systems with Bonita Video cameras present may require changes to the shutter period, as there has been a change in strobe timing

Requirements

A Vicon system that includes:

Bonita B3 or B10

T-Series

Vantage

Vero
