New: Vero 4.2, extra-wide, extra-tall 4MP coverage

For teams capturing in volumes up to 10 × 10 m, data at the edges of the space has always been a compromise. Markers drop out, trajectories break, and the fix is cleanup, interpolation, or a smaller usable volume. Vero 4.2 changes that. Its 4.2MP square sensor and 98.7° × 98.7° field of view give you extra-wide, extra-tall coverage, so you capture reliable data across more of your space, not just the center. 30% more capture volume per camera and 80% more vertical field of view than Vero 2.2.

Extra-wide, extra-tall coverage

Expand your usable capture area in every direction and stop losing data at the edges and corners of your capture space. At up to 98.7° × 98.7°, Vero 4.2 has nearly twice the field of view in the 4MP camera class.

Vicon Vero FOV

Flexible field of view without swapping hardware

Switch from wide coverage to tight detail without switching hardware. One varifocal lens takes you from 98.7° to 43°, so there are no lens kits to buy and no cameras to reposition between sessions.

Vero Varifocal

Trusted Vicon accuracy
at 4MP

Get the sub-millimeter data and proven software your field trusts. Vero 4.2 sends full grayscale data to your PC, where Vicon’s processing separates overlapping markers, resulting in fewer gaps and less clean-up.

Vero 2.2: high-speed capture at up to 330 FPS

When your subjects move fast, Vero 2.2 keeps up. It captures 2.2MP at 330 FPS, the fastest in the Vero range, making it a natural fit for athletes, drones, and other fast-moving subjects.

Built for Speed

330 FPS at full frame, so you capture fast movement in more detail, frame by frame.                                                                                                  Vero 2.2 Speed

Wide horizontal coverage

A 2048 × 1088 sensor and varifocal lens cover up to 98.1° × 50.1°, ideal for volumes that are wider than they are tall.

Vero Wide Coverage

Flexible Field Of View

Zoom from 98.1° to 44.1° to balance coverage and detail without swapping lenses.

Vero 1.3X: built for the tightest spaces

For teams needing an entry-level system, Vero 1.3X is the most compact camera in the range, suited for volumes up to 6m x 6m, suitable for depths up to 112 mm, and weighing 560 g. Its fixed 4 mm lens covers 79° × 67.6° so that you can track the full body at short range in small rooms, low-ceilinged labs and VR spaces.

FAQ's

What is the Vicon Vero camera range?

Vicon Vero is a range of compact, lightweight optical motion-capture cameras designed for small- to mid-sized capture volumes. There are four models: Vero 1.3, Vero 1.3 X, Vero 2.2, and Vero 4.2. Every Vero camera weighs under 600g and runs on a single Cat5e cable with Power over Ethernet. Vero works with Vicon’s Nexus, Shōgun, and Tracker software across life sciences, entertainment, and engineering.

What is the difference between Vicon Vero Cameras?

The four Vero models differ in resolution, frame rate, and field of view. Vero 1.3 is 1.3 MP at 250 fps with a 6-12 mm varifocal lens (55.2° to 27.2°) 4 mm fixed lens. Vero 1.3 X is also 1.3 MP at 250 fps, with a 4 mm fixed lens and a wider 79.0° × 67.6° field of view. Vero 2.2 is 2.2 MP at up to 330 fps with a 6.5–15.5 mm varifocal lens. Vero 4.2 is 4.2 MP at up to 180 fps at full resolution, with a square sensor and the widest field of view in the range: up to 98.7° × 98.7°.

Which Vero camera should I choose?

Choose what matters most in your capture space: coverage, speed, or budget. Vero 4.2 suits teams who need the most coverage and resolution per camera, especially in tall volumes up to 10 × 10 m or where data drops out at the edges. Vero 2.2 is suited for very fast movement, with the highest frame rate in the range (330 fps). Vero  1.3 and Vero 1.3 X are entry points for smaller volumes, with Vero 1.3 X offering a wider fixed field of view. A Vicon specialist can work out the right mix for your space.

What size capture volume is Vero designed for?

Vero is designed for small- to mid-sized capture volumes, and Vero  4.2 extends the range to spaces up to 10 × 10 m. How many cameras you need depends on your room shape, ceiling height, number of subjects, and the accuracy you require. Wider-field models such as 4.2 and 1.3X cover more area per camera, which can mean fewer cameras are needed to cover the same area.

Why does a square sensor matter for motion capture?

A square sensor provides equal horizontal and vertical coverage, so each camera captures more of a tall volume. Most motion capture sensors are wider than they are tall, which leaves gaps near the floor and ceiling. With Vero  4.2’s 2048 × 2048 sensor, you can track a full gait cycle from head to foot, a performer reaching overhead, or a drone climbing, without adding cameras to fill vertical gaps.

Can I change the field of view without changing lenses?

Yes., on Vero v4.2, v2.2 and v1.3. Vero has varifocal lenses, so you can adjust the field of view on the same camera. You can switch from wide coverage to tight detail between sessions without buying lens kits or swapping hardware. Vero 1.3X is the only Vero with a fixed lens.
