CAPTURING THE HUMAN ELEMENT
Pioneering safety and technology with industry-leading reliability
Vicon’s motion capture systems allow engineers to study how people interact with products or environments, revealing potential areas for ergonomic improvements and enhancing usability.
The technology helps in designing better tools, workspaces, and products by analyzing human posture and motion patterns, leading to reduced strain and increased comfort.
Vicon aids in assessing how human factors impact safety and performance, enabling the creation of systems that account for human limitations, preventing errors and improving efficiency.
Start your journey hereEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s motion analysis lab, led by Assistant Professor Christine Walck, uses Vicon technology to bridge biomedical research and aerospace engineering. Equipped with Vantage and Vero cameras, Vicon’s systems enable precise motion tracking for biomechanics, robotics, and aeronautics projects. “Vicon allows our researchers to work seamlessly across disciplines without sacrificing quality,” says Walck.
The lab tracks joint movement, muscle activation, and motion dynamics for applications such as simulating microgravity conditions, testing adaptive devices, and developing optimized exoskeleton models. Vicon’s versatility enables research both indoors and outdoors, facilitating experiments like quadcopter performance analysis and equine therapy investigations. By integrating with tools like OpenSim and EMG sensors, Vicon empowers the lab to quantify forces, optimize designs, and deliver innovative solutions. “Without Vicon, it would be difficult to achieve the precision and flexibility we rely on,” Walck adds.
Vicon’s motion capture technology plays a pivotal role in Human Factors Engineering, enabling precise analysis of human movement to improve product design, workplace safety, and user experience. Using Tracker 4 software and Valkyrie cameras, Vicon captures six degrees of freedom (6DoF) data with unmatched accuracy down to 0.017mm, delivering real-time insights into posture, gait, and biomechanics. This allows engineers to measure human interactions with tools, machinery, and workspaces to optimize ergonomics and reduce injury risks.
Vicon’s systems seamlessly integrate with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, and Unity, providing researchers with actionable data to refine designs for comfort, efficiency, and usability. Whether testing the ergonomics of vehicle interiors, evaluating workstation setups, or designing medical devices, Vicon ensures reliable, high-fidelity data for accurate assessments.
Trusted by global leaders across industries, Vicon empowers engineers to identify and mitigate risks related to repetitive strain, poor ergonomics, and user fatigue. This ensures safer, more effective environments for industries ranging from manufacturing to medical devices, enhancing both productivity and user experience.
When it comes to human factors engineering, precise and robust data and technology are paramount. In the quest for safe, ergonomic and reliable technology, there can be no shortcuts or hesitation. Whether using human factors engineering for the creation of tools, systems or human-operated machinery, Vicon’s systems offer the most reliable technology available.
By identifying and mitigating risks associated with repetitive strain, fatigue, and poor ergonomics, Vicon empowers industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and automotive to create safer, more efficient environments. Trusted by global leaders, Vicon’s motion tracking technology enables engineers to bridge the gap between human performance and technology, ensuring innovative solutions tailored to real-world needs.
