OXFORD, UK – JULY 31, 2025 – Motion capture leader Vicon showcased mid-year highlights including favorable business results, notable product launches and the hiring of three new senior executives. Vicon, a division of Oxford Metrics plc (LSE: OMG), has seen increased activity across South America, Asia Pacific and Europe during the first half of the calendar year, and the business has been a significant driver of revenue for the overall Oxford Metrics entity (1).
Business Results
After several years in development, Vicon Markerless was launched in March at the internationally-acclaimed Game Developer Conference in San Francisco. Oxford Metrics CEO, Imogen O’Connor, called it the company’s “best launch ever delivered” during the company’s June interim results announcement.
Vicon Markerless, which empowers visual effects teams to bring ideas to life with greater speed and ease than ever before, has seen overwhelmingly positive initial feedback. Already, the technology is being commercialized – Dreamscape Immersive’s latest VR experience is powered by Vicon Markerless.
Additionally, Vicon’s marker-based business saw good progress during the first half of 2025, securing both new contracts and customer upgrades across its main markets and geographies. That included:
- A leading group of rehabilitation hospitals across Brazil invested in its first Vicon Valkyrie system to carry out clinical gait analysis, enabling its orthopaedic teams to make informed decisions and recommend clinical, surgical and rehabilitative treatments.
- Major Entertainment producers across the US, Japan and Korea invested in large Valkyrie systems to capture ultra realistic movement and bring their characters to life.
- Sandbox VR continued its rollout of Vicon solutions, now with 55 facilities across the globe and more due to be opened.
Product Innovation
In addition to launching Markerless, the company debuted Active Crown in May. Purpose-built for virtual production camera tracking, Active Crown transforms unreliable tracking into robust, dependable motion data. Its innovative design minimizes interference and provides virtual production professionals with flexible, reliable tracking for cameras positioned anywhere on In-Camera Visual Effects (ICVFX) stages.
Several software updates were launched in the first half of the year, as well, including:
- Shōgun 1.15 – Enables markerless customers to download Shōgun Markerless for real-time streaming without suits and markers, and Shōgun Post for data control and integration into customers’ existing workflows and pipelines.
- Shōgun 1.14 – Allows users to automatically import settings with Vicon’s new Server Discovery feature and Live Link Plugin for Unreal Engine 5. In addition to Shōgun 1.14, Unreal users can download the new Live Link Plugin, which offers the Server Discovery feature. Users can connect to Unreal by automatically finding their Vicon system instead of doing this manually.
- Shōgun 1.13 – Includes several enhancements to the Subject Calibration Feedback Panel, making it easier than ever to get the best subject calibration. In both Shōgun Post and Live, improvements were made to the booting process that result in better labeling for multiple subjects.
- Nexus Insight 1.1 Release – Includes the ability to choose how to view data with personalized data charts, add 3D overlays to videos and import and compare reference data for both 3D and EMG data.
The mix of new and upgraded solutions is a testament to Vicon’s drive to push the envelope with its world-class R&D to develop entirely new solutions while continuing to invest in its existing product suite so no customer ever feels left behind.
Management Restructuring
Vicon was also proud to announce the appointment of three senior executives to its leadership team earlier this year. The newly minted leaders are:
- Timothy Smith, Head of Machine Learning & Research – Timothy is responsible for advancing Vicon’s cutting-edge motion capture products with an emphasis on research innovation. He also leads and shapes the future direction of the company’s machine learning initiatives.
- John Adamson, Head of Engineering – Adamson is tasked with shaping the strategic direction of Vicon’s engineering function, overseeing both the software and hardware engineering teams. He oversees the development of Vicon’s high-performance software and hardware systems, driving the technological evolution of the business.
- Richard Quine, Head of Product Delivery & Projects – Quine oversees the vision, strategy and execution of Vicon’s product roadmap. He works to ensure customer needs are prioritized in the roadmap so Vicon can continue to excel in delivering solutions that address real market problems.
“Timothy, John and Richard bring a combined seven decades of experience that has already been instrumental in driving Vicon’s ambitious research and development initiatives,” said O’Connor. “Their expertise will help ensure we remain at the forefront of motion capture innovation, building on our 40-year legacy of technology excellence.”
Vicon is well-positioned for the remainder of the year and beyond to continue its trajectory of delivering cutting-edge motion capture solutions and expanding its global reach, building on several decades of white-glove customer services and unrivaled technical prowess.
